Finally, it looks like spring is fully upon us. I was out today walking through the hills and fields near my home and noticing the first early blooms of the season. New life…new opportunities. Spring makes us feel…optimistic.
Spring is an excellent time to do a 3 Day-Detox and to start making positive changes in dietary habits. We tend to be less active during the winter months and accumulate toxins in stored fat cells. Even people that eat a pretty healthy diet accumulate more of these toxins during the winter than in other seasons of the year.
When people ask when the best time to do a 3 Day-Detox is, spring is always my first answer. Actually, I go on to recommend detoxing with the seasons…spring, summer, autumn, and winter. It’s an easy schedule to remember and is a huge help to your bodies natural detoxification processes.
If you are new to detox read the article here – A Basic 3 Day-Detox. This is a mild and very easy to follow detox diet that includes some fish or lean beef, chicken, or turkey as a protein source. A better idea would be to eliminate cooked foods and animal products from your diet completely for the 3 days. A 3 day diet of only fresh, organic fruits, vegetables and juices will do wonders. None of these are very difficult to complete. They just take a little bit of planning and the commitment to see it through.
After completing a 3 Day-Detox try to make some improvements in your daily diet. Do a self appraisal and look at what you eat in a given week. How much fresh, organic fruits and vegetables did you eat? If your answer is less than 50% fresh fruits and vegetables you have a lot of opportunity to help yourself. I’m not suggesting you must become a Vegan, although it is a very healthy way of life. But I do strongly recommend trying to achieve at least a 50% raw diet. It is much easier than you may think to increase the amount of fresh foods in your diet.
Salads are one of my favorite things. The colors, textures, and flavors of salads are endless. There are really no rules for what can be used in a salad and you will discover new combinations that you like all the time. I try to include 3 shades of green and then add some other colors of vegetable as well as a fruit like apple or orange. I really like cilantro for it’s bold flavor. Making a really nice, full salad one of your primary meals each can really improve the percentage of fresh in your diet and is completely painless.
If you have any interest at all in improving your health and vitality through what you eat, I urge you to check out the information here about Yuri ElKaims”s Eating for Energy program. There are many good guides and programs out there for eating a healthier diet, weight loss, and detoxification. I promote Eating for Energy because it does all of these things in an educational format that anyone can follow. You can sign up for the free 6 part “Energy Secrets” e-course without any obligation.
Hope everyone is enjoying these first days of spring as much as I am.
